Edgar Allan Poe

Hi! As we are reading a book of mysteries and detection I decided to write about Edgar Allan Poe, an American poet, short story writer, playwright, editor, literary critic and one of the first writer in America of detective and crime fiction. He was also one of the leaders of the American Romantic Movement. He is known for his tales of mystery and of the macabre.
He was born in Boston, his parents died when he was young and he went to live with John and Frances Allan in Richmond, Virginia. He grew there and for a few years in England, the Allans treat Edgar like he was never adopted. After a short time in the University of Virginia and at a military career, Edgar and the Allans seperated. Edgar started a publishing career that start with anonymous collections of poems called"Tamerlane and other Poems" (1827). Egar then, moved to Baltimore to live with relatives and star writing prose instead of poetry. In July of 1835, he became assistant editor of the SouthernLiterary Meesenger in Richmond, where he helped to increase subscriptions and start developing his own style of literary criticism. That year he also married Virginia Clemm( his 13-year old cousin)
After an unsuccessful novel "The Narrative of Arthur Gordon Pym of Nantucket", Edgar produced his first collection of short stories, "Tales of the Grotesque and Arabesque" in 1839. That year Edgar became editor of Burton´sGentelmen`s Magazine and then, Graham`s Magazine in Philadelphia. In Philadelphia many of his most well-known works were published. In that city, Egar planned also on starting his own journal, The Penn (later renamed The Stylus). In February 1844, he moved to Ney York and worked with the Broadway Journal, a magazine where he bacome the owner.
In January 1845,Edgar published "The Raven" a success but, two years later, his wife, Virginia died of tuberculosis on January 30, 1847. Edgar considered remarrying but he never did it. On Ocober 7, 1849, Edgar died at the age of 40 in Baltimore.
