La Vela Puerca is a Uruguayan rock band formed in Montevideo on December1995. Its founders and current members are Sebastián Teysera (lead vocals, frontman and main songwriter), Nicolás Lieutier (bass guitar) and Santiago Butler (guitar). The band's first appearance under the name La Vela Puerca was on a street party in Montevideo on December 1995. By then, several new members had already joined in.In 1996, frontman Sebastián Teysera entered a demo tape into a band contest. The rest of the band did not become aware of this until they found out they were listened among the twenty finalists. It was only a month later that they received a phone call informing them about their success. As a result, they were awarded 80 hours of free recording sessions. These sessions would turn out to be vital for the making of their debut album.
To this day, the band has released four albums plus a re-release of the first: Deskarado (1997), La Vela Puerca (1999, Deskarado re-release), De Bichos y Flores (2001) and A Contraluz (2004). This last two were produced by Gustavo Santaolalla.Their fourth album has been released under the title El Impulso in April this year. The new album contains 13 tracks and was produced by Juan Compodonico.
They have reached a high level of success in Uruguay an Argentina. In addition, some success in Europe, particularly in Germany.
Well I wrote about this because is the band I like most. My favorite CD is De Bichos y Flores and my favorite song is Me Pierdo (this song is in El Impulso) but I also like other like El Ojo Moro (De bichos y Flores) Las Polillas (Deskarado) or Escobas (A contraluz)

hi! i have read your blog and i want to tell you that i also really like this group of musicand that i have gone to most of their concerts in argentina or uruguay.
i also like "ska-p" a spanish group of music that start to play music in 1994.
The thing that i like more are their lirics and their rithm. Their lirics because they are about the critic of their "inconformismo" the "capitalismo" and the "racismo" , so they defend the "igualdad". One of their most famouse song is " cannabis" that is a song that is againts the marihuana.
They have record 6 cd's. they are:
- "ska-p" (1994)
- "el vals del obrero" (1996)
- "eurosis" (1998)
- "planeta eskoria" (2000)
- "que corra la voz" (2002)
- "incontrolable" (cd and dvd) (2004)
Then in 2005 they have split up because a strange discuss in the group.

We also like La Vela, and I(Juan Manuel)have gone to Ferro Stadium this September 9th to see then live. I really liked the show. They played 33 songs and they will edit a DVD with that concert that I will buy. For me, the best song is Caldo Precoz(A contraluz, 2004)
